Shaving stumbling blocks are not just superficial facts of life, all you need is a proper and careful routine as all of these problems are the result of a hasty or careless shaving regimen. Sahil Mehta, founder of a leading men’s grooming brand, shares some golden rules to follow to protect and nourish your skin while shaving.
Prepare your skin well
To begin with, it is necessary to ensure that the skin is well prepared. To do this, take a hot shower or wash your face with warm water. Followed by exfoliation of deeply rooted whiteheads and blackheads. It would make the skin more soft and elastic, improving the razor’s ability to shave cleanly and properly, preventing stubble from being stubborn!
After skin prep is complete, apply a pre-shave oil or cream. it would further enhance the tenderness of skin and hair.
Pay attention to the hygiene of the razor
Maintaining the hygiene of your razor is the next big must. The itching, irritation and razor burns caused on the skin are due to the bacteria present on your shaving blade. It is therefore advisable to regularly replace your used razor with a new one. Using a dull, rusty or dirty blade compromises the health of the skin.
Use a good shaving brush
There should be no compromise when it comes to the quality of the badger used. When shaving a well-developed beard, it is the brush that guides the hairs upwards, then massages the shaving cream/foam into the skin and between the hairs. A good quality brush creates a creamy lather while pulling the hair up and preparing it for a nice, clean, smooth shave.
Follow a proper shaving direction
Now that the preparation is complete, the next thing to worry about is how we shave our hair. Most of us are used to shaving against hair growth, but doing so can cut your face and burn you. So remember to lighten your grip and glide over the shaving layer and shaving cream in the same direction the hairs grew.
Hydrate and calm your face after shaving
Once the hair is completely shaved, it’s time to relax the facial pores that have been loosened. Rinsing your face with cold water would not only close the pores, but tighten the skin and make it calmer. Don’t forget to apply a post-shave tonic lotion to disinfect and clean the pores, especially if you are hyper-prone to redness.
Now moisturize your face with a moisturizing cream or oil and voila!
