People often witness small dotted bumps, especially on their legs, and wonder if they are the result of shaving. This condition is called “strawberry skin”. It’s caused by dirt that builds up around the pores, not by shaving.
Pooja Nagdev, aromatherapist, cosmetologist and founder of Inatur, explains that blackheads on the skin appear due to ingrown hairs and open pores. “Although the top layer of the skin may have such appearances due to various reasons, if the pores appear black and look like strawberry seeds, you are most likely suffering from this skin condition,” she says according to a report in Indian Express. The expert adds that it is not a serious condition but occurs when the pores become clogged with oil and dirt. People can feel this after a shave when the pores open up and are exposed to the air which turns them black.
Four ways to get rid of strawberry skin:
1: Apply moisturizer:
Strawberry skin is prone to dryness, so you need to apply moisturizer to treat it. The aromatherapist says you should gently massage the area with cold cream or body lotion right after taking a shower. It will hydrate your skin and help you get rid of dirt around your pores.
2. Shave properly:
It is important to shave properly. The type of razor you use also plays a big role in dryness and sensitivity, so you should avoid using harsh razors.
3. Start using an epilator:
Waxing and shaving cause folliculitis, so it is recommended to start using an epilator. The epilator is a rotating device that plucks hair from the roots and helps avoid clogged pores.
4. Exfoliating:
Exfoliation is an essential step in your skincare routine, especially when your skin has blackheads. Scrub your skin properly with a loofah while you shower and moisturize your skin after you seal it to close open pores. It will help you get smoother skin.
